-
Research shows that having doula support can shorten labor, reduce NICU admissions, less requests for pain medication, reduce the risk of unplanned cesarean sections, fewer births using vacuum/forceps, and overall higher birth satisfaction
-
Not at all. The goal of a doula is to enhance the support and experience of both the birthing person and partner/support people. In addition, doulas can teach the partner how to support the person in labor through touch, words, and emotions.
-
After you hire me, I conduct two pre-natal visits to get to know you and your desires as well as make birth and postpartum plans. Then I am on call for you until you deliver. I join you during labor once you need support and stay until your baby is born and you are in the recovery room. Then we will have two postpartum follow-ups in the first month to check on your wellbeing and adjustment to parenting
-
I attend any and all births including unmedicated vaginal deliveries, deliveries with epidurals and/or other medications, inductions, and cesarean sections (planned or unplanned)
-
I use a variety of techniques including:
physical support such as changing positions, counter-pressure, slow dancing, walking, etc.
emotional support such as coaching, encouragement
advocacy to the healthcare team based on your desires
breath and rhythm support
coping mechanisms such as heat/cold, birthing combs
consistent support throughout the whole labor process
These are discussed more in-depth in a pre-natal appointment
-
I serve clients in the Spokane and Coeur d’-Alene areas (including hospitals, home births, and birth centers).
-
My fee is collected in two payments. One to reserve my services for your due date and the second at our first pre-natal appointment. I will soon accept WA Medicaid
